If there's one area of the pitch that Newcastle United don't really have room for more bodies it's central midfield which is likely why the Magpies passed up the opportunity to correct an error in judgement from the last regime.

One of Mike Ashley's final acts as custodian of our beloved club was to sanction the sale of promising teenager Bobby Clark, son of Newcastle cult hero Lee Clark.

At the time it felt like a massive middle finger from Mike Ashley to the fans. A last act of twisting the knife before he left.

In reality, it sounded like Bobby Clark wanted to move on and when Liverpool came calling he saw his chance.

Liverpool offered Bobby Clark back to Newcastle

The fact that we only got £1.5 million for someone who was so highly rated is more of an issue than him actually being sold, however it looks like Clark could be on the move again.

As reported recently, FC Salzburg are keen to bring Clark to Austria and are stepping up their efforts to sign the 19-year-old.

However, it has also been reported by The Chronicle that Clark was offered to Newcastle by Liverpool despite the fact that there are supposedly 11 other clubs interested in the former Newcastle youth.

It would be a move based purely on sentiment

As we said, Newcastle have no shortage of central midfielders and bringing Clark back makes little sense, especially when his asking price seems to be around £12 million.

If we'd have kept him that would have been great, but bringing him back for ten times more than we let him go for when he probably doesn't improve the side at all isn't something we'd be keen to see done.

We know Clark has the potential to be a great player, and maybe one day we'll look back at this as a missed opportunity, but right now we just can't make it make sense.
