Even with the Saudi-backed takeover so close, Mike Ashley had one last act up his sleeve to enrage Newcastle United fans back in 2021.

Mike Ashley's asset stripping of Newcastle United continued right up to the end of his reign of terror at St James' Park with one of his last acts being the sanctioning of a deal that saw wonderkid Bobby Clark sold to Liverpool.

Newacstle's academy didn't have the best record of churning out top-quality players, so when one came through the ranks with huge potential it was genuinely a big deal.

It also didn't hurt that Bobby Clark is the son of Newcastle United hero Lee Clark, so when he was sold to Liverpool for £1.5 million in August 2021, Newcastle fans were naturally miffed.

RB Salzburg want Bobby Clark this summer

The youngster has featured for Liverpool's first team on a few occasions and shown a lot of promise with Newcastle fans venting their frustrations on social media every time the kid did something noteworthy - expect plenty of that this season whenever Yankuba Minteh makes a completed pass.

The 19-year-old is now generating interest from the continent with RB Salzburg already having had a bid for Clark rejected by Liverpool. The bid was alleged to have been around £6 million, but The Athletic claim that Liverpool want at least £12 million to sanction a permanent move.

We've already seen on social media that a few Newcastle fans have pondered whether the Magpies should offer up the £12 million themselves to bring him home.

Fans want Newcastle to bring Clark back

As gutted as we were to see Clark leave and continue to develop at Liverpool, the idea of paying almost ten times as much as we sold him for just as a sentimental move, doesn't quite add up for us.

It looks as though Liverpool are still in two minds about letting him go anyway, with a loan move more likely than a permanent switch.

I was about to say that the good thing about Mike Ashley being gone is that we won't have to live through this again, but then I remembered PSR exists and it has already happened again with Yankuba Minteh.
