The main midfield trio at Newcastle United has to be amongst the best in the Premier League at the minute.

Bruno Guimaraes surrounded by Joelinton and Sandro Tonali. When all three are performing at their top level there won't be many teams in England who wouldn't be insanely jealous of that midfield.

Unfortunately for Newcastle, we're yet to really see how devastating a trio they can be as having all three at the top of their game at the same time hasn't happened yet.

We may have seen it plenty of times by now had Sandro Tonali not had to serve a 10-month ban for betting offences and Joelinton not spent so much of last season injured. But we can't change the past, only look forward to the future and when those three start to click, the Premier League better watch out.

Sandro Tonali has picked up where he left off for Italy

After such a lengthy absence it's hardly surprising that it's taking Tonali a bit of time to get up to speed, especially as he'd not really got fully to grips with the Premier League before his ban started.

However, at international level, Tonali has managed to pick up where he left off, something that Italy boss Luciano Spalletti has proudly noted after starting Tonali in all four internationals since his ban ended.

Speaking to Italian radio station Radio Rossonera (h/t The Mag), Spalletti has praised Tonali for his energy.

Luciano Spalletti has praised Tonali's engine

Spalletti claims that it's maybe a way for Tonali to vent some of the accumulated anger from the past year.

“Sandro Tonali is immense for what he is doing. It is incredible, the game can last as long as he wants for him.

“He made two runs in the 90th minute [against Israel] with a pace frequency, a strength that is truly incredible.

“When he starts he turns the engine on at a thousand and when he turns it off it goes at a thousand the same.

“Maybe he still has to vent some of the anger from what he has accumulated since last year”.
