Newcastle United have two representatives in the latest Team of the Season from WhoScored.
It's usually the sign of a good weekend when your side has a couple of players named in a Team of the Week, but you know things are going well when you have two players in a Team of the Season.
WhoScored have released their latest Team of the Season so far via a post on X and Newcastle have two players in their XI.
The stat-tracking site often puts out a Team of the Season based on the average ratings they give players for each game and in the one released this week Kieran Trippier and Anthony Gordon have made it into the XI.
Kieran Trippier has been unbelievable again this season, pinging in assists like ... well, like it's his job I suppose. Trippier famously became the first player since Jason Puncheon to deliver a hattrick of assists for headed goals in a game in the Premier League in the 8-0 demolition of Sheffield United.
Even though he is now 33 Tripps is showing no signs of slowing down and is still a regular in Gareth Southgate's England squad, so it's little surprise to Newcastle fans that he's been recognised as one of the league's best players.
A man who is, for some unknown reason, being overlooked by Southgate is 22-year-old Anthony Gordon who also makes the WhoScored XI along with his club captain.
Gordon got off to a slow start at Newcastle and has admitted that he found it tough when he arrived, but the former Everton man swore he'd put in the work to get up to Eddie Howe's required levels and boy did he
Described as 'electric' and 'the quickest thing I've ever seen' by Leeds United and England Under 21 star Charlie Cresswell, Gordon lit up the Under 21 Euros, helping the Young Lions to glory and lifting the trophy as well as picking up Player of the Tournament.
Gordon even returned from his summer break early to get back into training. It has shown this season as Gordon has been arguably Newcastle's best player going forward. He's showing a willingness to get on the ball, put the pressure on the opposition and seems desperate to add to his goals tally in every game.
Unfortunately, Gordon was missing from the team that faced West Ham due to suspension - discipline being the side of his game that definitely needs work - and it's probably no coincidence that Newcastle could only muster a draw in that game without him.
I can't wait to see Gordon back in that starting line-up and if he keeps going the way he is, I can't see him dropping out of that Team of the Season with each update, same with Tripps to be fair.
