Newcastle United could be edging closer to offloading their first player of the January transfer window as Paul Mitchell aims to have a squad clear out.

Now that Paul Mitchell is fully established in the role of sporting director, we're expecting him to be very busy this month dealing with transfers.

We aren't holding our breath for any significant incomings, but there are a host of players who have needed to be moved on for a while now and Mitchell has to work on making those moves happen.

Now, MLS side Charlotte FC's assistant manager, Christian Fuchs has potentially dropped a huge hint over the future of one Newcastle star.

Miggy Almiron could be set to leave Newcastle this month

Miguel Almiron is edging closer to the Newcastle United exit door

Newcastle have been trying to shift Miguel Almiron for a year with several reported moves breaking down. The one that looked the most likely to happen was Miggy returning to the MLS with Charlotte FC in the summer, but they couldn't make the finances work.

However, Charlotte remained interested and now seems to believe that they can work out a deal with Newcastle with The Chronicle reporting that personal terms won't be a problem.

The MLS wage cap makes it hard for American clubs to bring in Premier League players, but this could be Newcastle's best chance to find a deal that works for everyone so hopefully they make it work.

Christian Fuchs has hinted that Miguel Almiron is heading back to the MLS

Charlotte's assistant manager, former Leicester City player, Christian Fuchs has spoken about Miggy recently and the language he used suggests that a deal is close.

“He’s a great player but I don’t really want to talk about him as he hasn’t signed yet. There are always a lot of names being associated with Charlotte FC and all I know is that once it is signed, Almiron will be a great addition to our club and I would really look forward to him joining us and playing for us.

“We are very ambitious, coming up into our fourth year and it has been a steady progression within the club, within the MLS and we are really looking forward to getting going again. We are coming back on January 12th, going into pre season, and it is going to be a great season ahead.”

The "yet" and "once it is signed" heavily suggest that things are being worked on and are very close. It may just be a matter time before the Paraguayan moves on.
