Darren Eales says NUFC are still on the lookout for new signings

Newcastle United's CEO Darren Eales has been speaking to Keith Downie for a piece on Sky Sports News and says the club aren't finished in the summer transfer market.

Eales stressed that Newcastle will always be "smart" with spending due to Financial Fair Play, but believes they will also be "flexible" and take opportunities should they present themselves.

While he was keen to stress that it wouldn't mean another three players would be heading to St. James' Park in the next three weeks, it does point to the fact that more than one could be signed.

It has been commonly reported that, following Tino Livramento's £31 million plus add-ons move from Southampton, the club would likely just add a central defender before the window closes. This may still be what happens, of course, but it's good to hear that Eales and the owners aren't resting on their laurels.

If the right player becomes available at a price that's acceptable to the recruitment team, then Newcastle may well add another body to the squad. A top-class right-winger or left-back would be fantastic!

Eales' key quote was as follows:

Look, as you know, we've got Financial Fair Play, and it's the same for every club. We've got to be flexible and smart about our spending. Since the ownership took over, I think we've seen that in every transfer window; we've been efficient in our spending and targeted. But if the right opportunity comes up, that doesn't mean we can't be flexible. So, I think we're always going to look and be open, but that doesn't mean there's going to be, you know, another three players joining us.
