Alan Shearer has hit a nerve after speaking his mind about Manchester United and the former Man United players' attitudes towards the team's performances.
The difference between the Manchester United side of now and the one back in the days of Sir Alex Ferguson is night and day. Everyone can see that.
However, should you point it out, it seems that's a very touchy subject for some.
Former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer turned down Manchester United to play for his boyhood club. And while Shearer never lifted a trophy with the Magpies, something he'd have been practically guaranteed to do if he'd joined Man United at the time, Shearer has always said he'd make the same decision again if he had to.
Shearer has mentioned many times that he hates Manchester United. The man gets pelters every time he turns up at Old Trafford for punditry work, and Man United fans sing anti-Shearer songs when playing Newcastle to this day. That's what happens when you live your life in your little entitled bubble and don't hear the word "no" very often.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast after Man United's 0-0 draw with Aston Villa, Shearer spoke about how former Manchester United players-turned-pundits hold this current team up to the standards of the Sir Alex Ferguson days.
"They're just not good enough, though. We hear a lot from the ex-players from Manchester United. But United, [compared to] when they were playing, they're miles and miles away from that!
"They're not good enough in so many positions, particular up front."
That comment didn't go down well with Paul Scholes - a Manchester United player-turned-pundit - who hit out at Shearer in the most petty way possible on his Instagram stories, as spotted by SportBible.
"Come on @alanshearer...you just wish you were an ex-Man Utd star-turned-pundit."
He really doesn't, Paul. He's said it plenty of times.
Clearly it's all just jokes, but you can tell that Shearer hit a nerve there with the former England superstar.
