Newcastle United fans have come in for a lot of stick for the way we celebrated our Carabao Cup win from rival fans who have no idea what this means to the Geordies or are simply chasing clout.

The internet has given everyone a voice and it was perhaps mankind's biggest mistake because not everybody's thoughts need to be heard.

However, that's the world we live in now, and it has developed into a strange society where anyone can become famous for saying one thing ... Hawk Tuah, anyone? So there are genuinely people out there now whose sole aim is to go viral and ride that wave for as long as they can.

That, in turn, has led to a strange time when people will say things they don't even believe just to stoke engagement and it has now bled into the mainstream media. TV and radio companies are so desperate to stay relevant that they have to stoop to these levels.

Strange how TalkSPORT always have two hosts with opposing opinions. Hmmmm....

TalkSPORT's Jamie O'Hara wound up Newcastle fans this week saying that we had gone overboard with our cup celebrations and that it was 'only the Carabao Cup'. His job is to literally talk to football fans, so he know full well what that cup win meant to the region and the fanbase.

He was in the squad when Tottenham won the League Cup, so he knows on a personal level how it feels, but instead, he chose to antagonise and belittle Newcastle United for showing passion.

The worst thing is, I don't believe for one second that's how he genuinely feels. TalkSPORT always have two people in the studio and it's very rare, if ever, that the two will be on the same side of an argument. That's not a coincidence, that's predetermined before they go on air. Their bickering promotes engagement so you get fans calling in to side with one over the other. And it works.

Joe Hart has a much more sane take on Newcastle's Carabao Cup celebrations

Thankfully, there are still pundits and journalists who will rise above those levels, such as Joe Hart who has rubbished claims that Newcastle have gone over the top. Speaking on BBC's Monday Night Club, the former Man City goalkeeper spoke about that feeling when you lift that first trophy.

“That Newcastle celebration, a lot of people saying ‘you’ve won the league cup calm down’. No – absolutely not. That was an incredible moment for that city, incredible moment for that football club.

“(They are) a huge football club that are many people’s second teams if you’re not a Geordie, and not from Sunderland obviously.

“But Manchester City, when we did that when we won that first trophy, which we’re all very accustomed to doing now. Manchester City win, people are bored of going to semi-finals because they’re just that used to going down to Wembley. But that emotion that went on, especially in the semi-final to beat Manchester United and then go on to win that trophy – it felt like everything.

“The emotion that came out from right the way down the City supporters from the brand new ones to the guys who haven’t experienced it in so many years and been through the leagues. We had an open-top bus through the streets, we ended up at the stadium and it was one of the greatest things. We sold out the stadium just to come and be presented after winning that FA Cup.

“It was one of the best feelings in my football career.”

Everyone is chasing clout and aren't afraid to make themselves look stupid to do it

That's a more reasonable view on the subject from someone who lived it, and I still say that's how Jamie O'Hara really feels, but he drew the short straw and had to be the antagonist for this one.

Fans on social media are probably more genuine with their bitterness, and that's more understandable, but there are still plenty of those who say things just to start a fight on the internet as it's the only way they can get validation.

It's a weird world we live in, but it's also a world in which NEWCASTLE UNITED ARE EFL CUP CHAMPIONS!
