It wasn't too long ago that Newcastle United had the audacity to sell a player to a club owned and operated by their 85% backers, and they did so, not at an inflated price, but what could have even been considered below fair market value.
So terrified are the PIF of pissing off the Premier League that they sold fan-favourite winger Allan Saint-Maximin to Al-Ahli for about £22 million. For all his faults, we could easily have bagged another £10 million for his services on a bad day.
When you consider how many other Premier League clubs sold middling and ageing players to PIF-backed Saudi clubs for extortionate amounts of money, you'd have thought that we would have squeezed everything we could out of that deal to line Newcastle's pockets and tried to beat PSR.
You can guarantee, though, that had we done that, our accountants would have all been lined up for a Midnight Express-like cavity search, such is the intense scrutiny our club is under by those who are terrified of us becoming successful.
Meanwhile, in London, Chelsea avoided PSR sanctions by flogging the hotels on their stadium land ... to themselves, a move that is perfectly legal in Premier League rules.
That was last year. This year they've done even better because they have sold their women's team ... to themselves. And, according to The Times, they have generated a huge profit for the club in doing so, meaning they will once again be able to go wild in the transfer market as only Chelsea knows how.
Again, this is all perfectly legal in the eyes of the Premier League. It remains to be seen how UEFA will react, but our issue right now is with the Premier League and the levels of corruption employed by them to stop Newcastle from doing anything while letting Chelsea take the piss. Just to be clear, we don't even blame Chelsea here, they're just being clever and getting away with it. I'm sure we'd all love it if Newcastle could do it, too.
Newcastle need to find something that they can sell back to themselves for a huge profit to see how quickly that loophole is closed.
Maybe we can set up a company to buy one of our players' contracts like what happened to Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano back in the day.
In fact, I hear the carpark at the Benton HQ was built atop an oil reserve. We should sell that to some brand-new PIF-owned entity that is also heavily invested in Newcastle United.
It beggars belief, the double standards that persist with the Premier League and just how blatantly bent it is.
