'70%': Sandro Tonali is too honest when talking about his sexy stunner at St James' Park last night

Sandro Tonali hit a Goal of the Season contender to win the game for Newcastle United last night leaving everyone in stunned silence.

After playing a one-two down the line with Harvey Barnes, Sandro Tonali unleashed a fierce shot from near the corner flag which flew like an arrow towards Mark Flekken's near post.

The Brentford keeper was in no man's land and was only able to help the ball to its destination in the back of the net.

Nobody could quite believe or even understand what they had just seen, but the more replays we saw, the more it looked like Tonali had meant for that ball to fly goalwards.

Jay Bothroyd's reaction on Sky Sports News was priceless as he and other pundits in the studio believed Tonali had definitely gone for goal.

However, the man himself is way too humble, admitting to NUFC TV after the game that it was a cross.

"I think it was a, I'd say it was 70% cross, and 30% shot, but it was a power shot. it was difficult for the keeper, it was difficult for me. I think I was a little bit lucky but I'm happy. I'm happy because the team is so important for me and this win is so important for every player."

Whatever the intention was behind the hit, that surely shouldn't diminish its chances of picking up the Goal of the Season award.

It has been said that during Tonali's 10-month ban, one thing he worked really hard on in training was his shooting, and we can certainly see that paying off.

Goals were never a bit part of Sandro's game, but since returning from his ban, he has scored some absolute peaches for club and country and now has three against Brentford in the last two meetings. Which is nice.
