One of Newcastle United's big priorities in the summer will be the acquisition of a new striker to support Alexander Isak who is carrying the weight of the whole team on his shoulders this season.

With Callum Wilson forever injured and also likely to be leaving the club in the summer, Eddie Howe only has Will Osula as a back-up striker for Alexander Isak and it's clear that Howe doesn't believe Osula is ready to shoulder that responsibility.

Thankfully, Isak has had a much better season in terms of injuries than the last campaign, but it's still a dicey situation.

Newcastle have a few positions to fill in the summer but has their eye on a free agent to fill the striker void. Unfortunately, many other clubs have their eyes on the same player.

Newcastle will be one of many clubs chasing Jonathan David in the summer

Lille have rejected a £10m approach for Jonathan David

Lille's goal-machine striker Jonathan David is very likely to leave the Ligue 1 side in the summer after his contract expires, but as for where his next destination will be, nobody knows just yet.

Now, The Chronicle is reporting that an unnamed club have tried to jump the gun with a 'cheeky' £10 million bid for the Canadian striker.

However, Lille were quick to dismiss the approach. While the French club are resigned to losing Jonathan David in the summer, they're not inclined to accelerate his departure, even if it will net them a few extra million quid.

Newcastle face a couple of big hurdles in their pursuit of Jonathan David

Jonathan David has 11 goals and two assists in 18 Ligue 1 appearances so far this season, as well as five goals and an assist in seven Champions League games. His form is a big reason why Lille are heading for European football yet again, and because of that, Lille want to keep hold of him for as long as they can to ensure they do just that.

There's going to be such a scramble for Jonathan David this summer with clubs from all over Europe keen to add the 25-year-old to their ranks.

Should Newcastle qualify for the Champions League, they will likely feel they have a much better chance of securing his signature, although, we still think convincing him to join to play second-fiddle to Alexander Isak is going to be a really tough sell.
