If this isn't the straw that breaks the camel's back for Eddie Howe with regards to Callum Wilson then we honestly don't know what we do from here.

Newcastle United absolutely have to, have to, have to get rid of Callum Wilson at the next available opportunity now. There are no excuses any more.

Having been missing since pre-season, Wilson has recently made a return from injury after several return dates were pushed back.

Wilson finally made a return to action in the 2-0 defeat to West Ham and has since made three subsequent appearances amassing 57 minutes in total.

Callum Wilson has played less than an hour of football this season

With not even an hour of first-team football under his belt this season, the 32-year-old has, according to Mail Sport, picked up another hamstring injury which is set to keep him out for two months.

Once again, Wilson will be injured for the duration of a transfer window, making a move away nigh-on impossible. It probably is just a coincidence, but you can certainly forgive anyone for thinking he's doing it on purpose at this point.

The Mail reports Wilson felt a tightness in his hamstring after coming on for the final 17 minutes during Saturday’s 4-2 defeat at Brentford and now, after being assessed, he is set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Wilson surely has to be contemplating retirement now

Given that we'll now be unable to sell him in January and that his contract is due to expire in the summer, we feel the right thing for him to do would be to mutually terminate his contract early to ease the burden of paying his wages for absolutely nothing.

We can't cash in and bring in any money from a transfer fee, so we should be able to save money on his wages seeing as he's not actually fit to do his job.

It's safe to say that his Newcastle United legacy is ruined now. For all his goal-scoring exploits and amazing strike rate, he'll forever be remembered for being injured more often than not. Time to retire and give that number 9 to Alexander Isak.
