Newcastle United have a weekend off with their next game being Sky Sports' Monday Night Football's selection as they travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea.

Neither club has been at their best lately with talks of both managers being under pressure in the media, although you'd like to think that Eddie Howe's job is a lot more secure than that of Mauricio Pochettino given how sack-happy Chelsea can be.

Newcastle head to London on the back of a 3-0 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers last week whereas Chelsea could only muster a 2-2 draw with Brentford.

Newcastle will have to do without Kieran Trippier on Monday night

The Magpies will be without Kieran Trippier who picked up a calf injury in the win against Wolves, which means Tino Livramento will likely get a run at the club he left back in 2021.

Newcastle put Chelsea to the sword at St James' Park but whether we can recreate that at Stamford Bridge is a different story.

Chris Sutton might as well have just flipped a coin for this one

He made his prediction for the BBC but has done so with no real conviction at all, and we can see why the former Blackburn man has struggled.

"How can anyone accurately predict Chelsea versus Newcastle, given the inconsistency we have seen from both teams recently?

"Which Chelsea team will turn up, and which Newcastle side will we see? The Magpies bounced back from a bad defeat at Arsenal by beating Wolves, but they have not won back-to-back league games since the start of December.

"I've lost count of the number of times I've backed Chelsea at home, and been wrong, but surely they are going to win again at Stamford Bridge before the end of the season?

"I went with the law of averages when I picked a Newcastle home victory last week, so hopefully the same method will work again with Chelsea this time.

"Sutton's prediction: 2-1"

As Sutton himself points out, it will very much depend which version of each side turns up on the day. Both are capable of winning, and both could just as easily get a hiding.

We'll have to see how this one goes on Monday night.
