Eddie Howe must be really ruing Newcastle United's failure to add quality in the last two transfer windows after a poor start to the season.

Newcastle have picked up 12 points in the first eight games this season and not too long ago we'd be calling that a good start, however the standards have been raised now and what was once seen as good is now below par.

On one hand, it's still a decent points total, but when you look at the calibre of side that Newcastle have dropped points to then it becomes a different story, and when you add the toothless displays on top of that, then yes, it's a poor start.

Newcastle have needed to add something up front for a while now with Eddie Howe not able to rely in Callum Wilson to back up Alexander Isak as much as he'd like to kid himself otherwise. Of course, there's also the lack of improvement on the right side of the attack which is the dead horse we are currently flogging.

Liverpool could be about to drop out of the race for Bryan Mbeumo

Liverpool could pull out of the race for Bryan Mbeumo

Newcastle have a few players in mind who could change their fortunes and one of those is Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo.

The 25-year-old forward has bagged six goals in eight Premier League games this season drawing interest from Newcastle, Arsenal and Liverpool with Brentford setting a £50 million price tag on the versatile player.

Mbeumo can play wide on the right or through the middle with equal effectiveness which makes him the perfect signing for Newcastle.

Newcastle should use that Marc Guehi money on Bryan Mbeumo

Newcastle and Arsenal could be about to get some good news on the Mbeumo front too according to London World as Liverpool's Mo Salah is now leaning towards signing a contract extension at Anfield which would delay their need to sign a new forward leaving the door open for Newcastle and Arsenal.

The big issue facing Newcastle and Arsenal will be convincing Brentford to part with their star man. In light of his blistering start to the campaign, that £50 million price tag could soon creep up.

For us, if Newcastle were going to spend £70 million on a defender they didn't need as urgently, then forking out £50 million for a player who could transform our season almost immediately should be a no-brainer.

We like Antoine Semenyo, but if we had the choice then it would be Bryan Mbeumo for us because of how well he can go from right wing to centre forward.
