Anthony Gordon has finally signed a new deal at Newcastle United weeks after saying that it was 'very close'.

Over the summer there was a lot of speculation of Anthony Gordon's future after the club toyed with the idea of selling Gordon to Liverpool to plug the gap in the accounts that would have seen Newcastle break Profit and Sustainability rules.

Thankfully that idea came and went pretty quickly with no action being taken, but the media caught wind of it and thus began a media storm that seemed to turn Gordon's head while he was away on international duty with England during Euro 2024.

It was even suggested that it was part of the reason Gordon was restricted to just four minutes of action at the tournament - along with the bike accident.

Anthony Gordon has put any fears of unrest firmly behind him

Fast forward to the start of the new season and Anthony Gordon had very little time to train with the team before the campaign got underway and it showed. He was a yard off the pace, his body language suggested that his head simply wasn't in the game, and of course everyone thought it was because he wanted that move to Liverpool.

As the season has gone on and his match sharpness has returned those worries have melted away, and now that he's finally put pen to paper on the new deal any suggestion that Gordon isn't 100% committed to Newcastle United should be long gone.

Gordon has spoken out many times about how happy he is at Newcastle and how much he loves living in the area and the 23-year-old has doubled down on that today when speaking to the official website after signing his new deal.

Anthony Gordon says he has always felt settled in the area

"I just think the club's in a great place. Since the takeover it's just been up and up. Me and the gaffer are a perfect match in terms of style of play. I love it here.

"I'm very happy here, I like living here, the team is very suited to me - and I'm here to win a trophy. The short story is we need to win a trophy. Winning a trophy here would be unbelievable because the fans have waited so long. To be part of that team who finally does it is a massive goal of mine.

"We (my family and I) have always felt settled because Geordies are so easy-going and so welcoming, very easy to speak to and always want the best for you. It's a very easy place to come and live, I think. I feel very connected to everyone - teammates, fans and everyone involved."

Eddie Howe is 'delighted' Gordon has committed to Newcastle

Eddie Howe spoke of his delight at seeing Gordon sign a new deal and hints at more to come from the winger.

"I'm delighted Anthony has committed his future to the club. He has grown as a player and as a person during his time at Newcastle United and he has continued to prove just how good he is on the biggest stage.

"He is dedicated to improving himself and the team, and when you add that to the quality of his performances and his incredibly high work-rate, it's clear to see why he has such a special connection with our supporters.

"There's even more to come from Anthony and I'm excited about what's ahead for him and us."
