Newcastle United have said goodbye to a very recent appointment already as changes continue behind the scenes.

It was only last month that Newcastle appointed former Sunderland and Leeds player Liam Bridcutt to the coaching staff but the former Chelsea man has already moved on to pastures new.

Bridcutt is linking up with his former Chelsea academy teammate Carl Magnay who has just been handed the manager role at Gateshead as reported by The Shields Gazette.

Gateshead recently lost Mike Williamson to MK Dons and Carl Magnay would leave Heed to join Williamson. Meanwhile former Newcastle 'keeper Rob Elliot took over in the Gateshead hotseat but he recently headed to Crawley Town to take over as manager there.

Magnay has agreed to return to Gateshead as gaffer and has moved to have his pal, Bridcutt by his side as a coach.

Newcastle had just appointed a Diarmuid O'Carroll to oversee the Under 21s so things were already in flux in the academy before Bridcutt, who was working as session coach in the academy took the decision to move to Gateshead.

Bridcutt was once rather vocal about Sunderland fans during their time in League One.

Bridcutt accused the Sunderland fans of ruining the club

As mentioned in the Sunderland Echo, Liam Bridcutt accused the Sunderland fans of ruining the club back in 2021.

"The fans are massive for that club, they make the club as big as what it is. But they’re actually ruining their own club in terms of how they are with players on the pitch. They have to realise that they are League One players and it is what it is. You either adapt and say we realise there’s going to be more mistakes than in the Premier League.

"But like I say about last season, they’re actually doing alright and their home record is probably the best that they’ve had in the past four or five years because there’s no fans, which is embarrassing. I guarantee - I remember after every game there used to be like 2,000 people to tell you either you’ve done alright or tell you you’re rubbish."

Anyone who has a pop at the Mackems is okay in our book. Good luck in your new role, Liam and thank's for all of your hard work and dedication over your ... *checks notes* ... one month at the club.
