Anthony Gordon has committed his future to Newcastle United by signing a new long-term deal with the club.

It has been coming for a while but as Gordon pointed out in his interview with NUFCTV, these things are complicated and take a while to get done.

Indeed, Gordon had been in talks with the club over a new deal since the summer which means that all the speculation that his poor start to the season was down to him wanting away was way off target. Gordon himself addresses his slow start to the season and puts it down to not being fit after sitting on the bench all summer with England.

Thankfully we can put all the doubts in the rear view mirror now and move forward knowing that one of the best wingers in the country is 100% committed to Newcastle United.

Anthony Gordon wants Champions League and a trophy this season

So what's next on the agenda for Anthony Gordon now that he's signed his contract? Domination it seems!

Gordon was asked what the ambitions are for this season and the 23-year-old has set his sights high, even in light of the recent on-field struggles.

"I think Champions League. Always. Champions League and a trophy. I don't see why we shouldn't be ambitious. Individually I'm always ambitious, to probably a delusional extent but I think if you don't believe, no one else is going to.

"I want to play in the Champions League, that's where as a player, I see myself that's I see that's where I should be, and I'm sure other many others in the squad feel like that. Last season's experience was so good and so bitter in some ways because I don't feel like we should have went out, we obviously lacked a lot of players and I feel like with a full squad and that experience I feel like we could really o on and compete in those competitions. But like I said before a trophy is probably the one we need."

There's a long way to go this season and Gordon's dreams could still come true

Given recent performances that word 'delusional' really stands out, but there's nothing to say that Newcastle couldn't just start to click this weekend and go on a long unbeaten run and surge back up the league table.

There's still 30 games to go in the Premier League after all. Even rock bottom Wolverhampton Wanderers can still win the league at this point. It's unlikely, but it's not impossible.

Newcastle are set to go up against Chelsea next week in the Carabao Cup and a win there could have fans believing that this is our year.

It's all still very much in our own hands and with the type of belief Anthony Gordon has in himself and his teammates, why shouldn't we be aiming high? A few bad results doesn't have to define our season.
