New Year, new England manager as Thomas Tuchel officially takes over from Gareth Southgate and interim boss Lee Carsley as England boss.
Newcastle United have several players who will be hoping to keep their place in the England set-up after earning call-ups last year. Particularly Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento.
The two young full-backs were brought into the side by interim coach Lee Carsley and while Lewis Hall impressed instantly, Tino Livramento had to wait patiently for his chance to show what he can do.
Despite being called up in Carsley's first squad, Livramento didn't actually get any minutes until Carsley's last game in charge, whereas Hall had to wait for his call-up, but not long until he was on the pitch.
Anthony Gordon is a bit more established in the England camp now after going to the Euros with the squad, albeit to mostly sit and watch from the sidelines. However, his performances under Carsley and his form for Newcastle should be more than enough for him to be a lock for the next squad.
Nick Pope had been in and out under Southgate and Carsley, but is currently out injured and doesn't really feature in the equation this time.
Tuchel may even have a couple of other players he wants to watch as his first public task as England manager is to cast his eye over the Tottenham v Newcastle game on Saturday.
While it's definitely an incentive for the existing crop of England players, Craig Hope may have got a bit carried away on X last night when he reported on Tuchel's attendance.
Hope said that it would be a good change for Dan Burn and Jacob Murphy to impress. Which, yes, it absolutely will, but come on, Craig.
We're sure he was just joking. With the best will in the world, and as good as Dan Burn has been this season, we can't see Tuchel picking the 32-year-old at this stage in his career. As for Jacob Murphy, as good as his purple patch was (is?), that's a proper pie-in-the-sky dream.
