Interim England manager Lee Carsley has named the first squad since the Three Lions were beaten in the Euro 2024 final.
After the second successive failure in the European Championships final, Gareth Southgate took the decision to step aside as England boss and while the FA still haven't made their next official appointment, the U21s boss Lee Carsley has stepped up to fill the void.
England are set to take on Ireland and Finland in the Nations League next month and now Lee Carsley has named the squad that will partake in those games.
Nick Pope who was dropped from the England roster by Gareth Southgate before he picked up his shoulder injury last season has been recalled.
There's also a return to the squad for the criminally underused at Euro 2024, Anthony Gordon who will be hoping that Carsley is more generous with his minutes than his predecessor.
Kieran Trippier announced his retirement from international football mere hours before the squad was announced, and now, not content with pushing Tripps down the pecking order at club level, Tino Livramento has stepped up to take over his place in the England squad too.
Livramento has represented England through all the youth levels and will now be hoping to bag his first senior cap in the upcoming Nations League fixtures.
Having three players called up for England definitely shows the progress that is being made under Eddie Howe.
Two players linked with Newcastle throughout the summer also received call ups. Marc Guehi who Newcastle have been trying to sign for a month now was a shoo-in for a call up after his displays at Euro 2024.
Meanwhile, Chelsea's Noni Madueke, who has started the season in blistering form, has been rewarded with a call-up too, probably driving another nail into the coffin of Newcastle's hopes of landing the winger.
