Lee Carsley started all three of his Newcastle United representatives against the Republic of Ireland in this evening's Nations League game.

A win for England would see them gain automatic promotion back to the big boys table of the Nations League by virtue of goal difference if Greece were to also win.

Greece saw off Finland pushing England to the wire, but a convincing second-half performance and a 5-0 win over our neighbours to the west ended any hopes that Greece had.

England and Ireland went in level at the break after a fairly uneventful first-half, but all changed in the second 45.

A look at England's future

England came to life in the second half after Ireland had a player sent off

England sparked into life in the second half after Liam Scales brought down Jude Bellingham in the area handing England a penalty. Scales also picked up his second yellow card for that offence. Harry Kane converted the spot kick giving England a one-goal lead to go with their one-man advantage.

The floodgates opened for England with a goal made in Newcastle doubling the lead just two minutes later.

A cross from debutant Tino Livramento found Anthony Gordon in the area who volleyed home for his first-ever senior England goal.

Our lads did excellent for England tonight

Conor Gallagher added a third before Jarrod Bowen scored with his first touch of the ball mere seconds after coming on the pitch to make it four while another debutant, Taylor Harwood-Bellis wrapped things up moments after he came off the bench.

Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento played the entire game with Gordon hooked not long after his goal. All three contributed to England's win with Hall one of the few players who stood out in the first half.

We thought Hall was going to bag himself a goal as he pulled the Irish defence inside out before laying it off for Conor Gallagher to try an 18-yard rabona. Thankfully England were cruising by that point so I won't hammer him too much - still a ridiculous thing to try after all the hard work Hall had put in.

With an assist to his name, Tino Livramento will surely be chuffed with his debut, and a first goal for Gordon should see all three Newcastle players returning to the North East with a spring in their step.
