Newcastle United are set to sign 18-year-old midfielder Alfie Harrison from Manchester City.

The youngster is another promising footballer off the Man City assembly line and Newcastle have acted fast to snap him up.

A medical is on the cards in the coming days according to The Athletic who also go on to say that Harrison has been compared to Erling Haaland ... for the way he looks. That ... that's not a compliment.

Harrison has eight goals in 10 games this season

If he scores goals like Haaland then we're laughing. And indeed he has bagged eight goals in 10 appearances for City's U18s side this season from midfield.

While it's not the signing we were all hoping for given that he's likely a couple of years away from a first-team debut, it's still a positive sign that we are a big enough draw that young players will leave Manchester City to come to us.

Harrison might actually find himself in the first team this season if our injury record doesn't start to improve, and with Bruno Guimaraes one booking away from a two-match ban, he might be chucked right in at the deep end.

Newcastle continue to build for the future

If he's as good as The Athletic say he is, it might not be a bad thing. Age doesn't matter if you're good enough, look at Lewis Miley and Jude Bellingham.

A first-team player or two would be nice his month, but at least the club aren't panicking or losing focus on their long-term aims, even if it is driving us fans up the wall.

Trust the process and all that.
