NUFC.news Towers has been on edge for months when it was revealed that Joelinton could be heading for a Newcastle United exit this summer.

Everyone's favourite footballing Cinderella was apparently putting his foot down when it came to negotiating a new contract which was causing the club some hesitation with reports that talks had broken down.

As a result, having just one year left on his current deal, it was looking likely that the 27-year-old would be sold in the summer to avoid him leaving on a free next year.

Given that Joelinton is potentially out for the season through injury, that meant that we could have seen the last of our Brazilian Beast.

Talks are progressing well with Joelinton

Thankfully, though, Luke Edwards is now reporting that talks are progressing well and Joelinton is ready to sign a new deal.

Joelinton looks set to become one of the club's top earners after Amanda Staveley stepped in to guide the negotiations. After everything J7 has done for this club, sticking with us when he was the butt of the joke to then becoming an actual hero, we think he's earned it.

While not addressed specifically in the report in The Telegraph, there is a feeling that part of the reason the talks have dragged on is that the club were, as usual, tip-toeing around the Financial Fair Play issue and given that Newcastle are right at their FFP limit, a new contract with heavy bonuses could have been a step too far.

Come back, Joe, we miss you

That's just rumours at this point, but there's a definite solid basis of reality there.

However, the important thing is we're now increasingly less likely to have to hold a candlelit vigil in the office this summer to mourn the selling of Joelinton.

Now we just need him back from injury sooner than expected to help us through these last few games.
