Kieran Trippier is still a Newcastle United player with just a few hours to go in the transfer window. This is despite the former England man wanting to leave the club since the summer.
Eddie Howe's first Newcastle United signing has one foot out the door for a year now after almost moving to Bayern Munich last January.
Then, in the summer, after a bunch of personal issues, Trippier made the decision to leave Newcastle for a clean break, but a move never materialised, and while Trippier has played semi-regularly, albeit as a substitute, this season, the feeling is that he still wants to leave.
Rumours surfaced at the weekend that Galatasaray would be keen to take Trippier away from Newcastle after he was linked with several Turkish clubs in the summer.
The Telegraph's Mike McGrath has issued an update as part of their deadline day report (4:17pm) and he suggests that Trippier is keen on the move to Galatasaray and that the deal doesn't have to be done today.
"Kieran Trippier’s move to Galatasaray from Newcastle is still on at this stage - but there is no urgency to get the deal done in the next few hours. The Turkish window does not close until next week, giving the Super Lig leaders time to negotiate a deal for the ex-England full-back. Eddie Howe has only started Trippier in cup matches in 2025, with Tino Livramento ahead of him in the pecking order."
Newcastle are likely to have a fee in mind, and if our recent history is anything to go by, that valuation will be well above market value, so hopefully, Galatasaray don't just turn their noses up and walk away.
It may be a dangerous move letting another first-teamer leave this month without any replacements coming in, but at the same time, it's just as big of a risk not cashing in on these players while we can.
Newcastle are going to need every penny of PSR headroom they can create in the summer, but the more sales we make, the more players we need.
And now I'm raging about PSR again. Seriously, can we not just all protest outside of Premier League HQ and get them to bin this rule off?
