Newcastle United haven't been very active in this January transfer window with fans expecting to see a bit more activity in the winter market.
Nobody was expecting floods of incoming players with the club's message always being that January would be used to find new clubs for a few players in and around the first-team squad in a bid to open up some PSR headroom ahead of the summer.
However, the Magpies haven't really been too active in that department either as selling players is becoming a real difficulty for the club.
Miguel Almiron is expected to complete his £10 million move back to Atlanta United any minute now, while the next closest Newcastle have come to shifting a first-team player is loaning out Isaac Hayden again.
There are vague rumours around Sean Longstaff and Everton but we don't feel there's an awful lot in that for now. Callum Wilson may have been a player the club tried to move on if he wasn't injured.
Now, though, there appears to be interest in Kieran Trippier once again. The £12 million signing from Atletico Madrid was linked with a move to Bayern Munich last January and also had a transfer request turned down in the summer after going through some personal issues at home. Turkish side Eyupspor were watching on with interest in the summer too.
A report from Turkish outlet Haber Sarikirmizi is claiming that Galatasaray have been offered the chance to sign Kieran Trippier.
Galatasaray are reportedly chasing Southampton right-back Kyle Walker-Peters but journalist Yakup Çınar has claimed that Trippier has been mentioned as an alternative.
“The alternative to Kyle Walker-Peters is Kieran Trippier. The 34-year-old, who plays for Newcastle United, was recommended to Galatasaray by agents. He’s one of the alternatives at right-back.”
Trippier is clearly the backup to first-choice Tino Livramento these days, but even so, it would be less than ideal to let him go this month. Newcastle are already weak down the right-hand side, especially with Miggy's exit imminent. Going down to having just Emil Krafth to deputise for Livramento might be a step too far.
Obviously, in terms of PSR, another player off the wage bill and perhaps a few million pounds in the bank all helps, but the squad already lacks depth and this might be an offer that makes more sense to reject should they make a move.
