Before the pictures of the player holding the shirt of their new club, the surest sign of a transfer going ahead is a 'Here we go' from Fabrizio Romano and we finally have one connected to a Newcastle United player.

It's an outgoing Newcastle player, sure, but it's just good to see a 'Here we go' with Newcastle involved. It feels like aeons since it last happened.

Miguel Almiron has been inching closer to his return to Atlanta United since last weekend but it seems that it's finally about to move into the final stages.

We thought he'd have been gone by the time Newcastle travelled to Southampton for Saturday's game, but not only did Miggy make the trip, he even got on the pitch.

Almiron was given a nice send-off at St Mary's

Eddie Howe gave Almiron a five-minute cameo at the end of the game which was dominated by the crowd singing Almiron chants.

The serenading continued after the final whistle as Miggy was pushed to the front of the crowd of players by the gaffer to soak up the love with everyone convinced it would be the last time we'd see Miggy on the pitch as a Newcastle player.

Now Fabrizio Romano has all but confirmed the transfer is to go ahead, although it is worth noting that there's still work to be done.

Miguel Almiron is poised to sign a four-and-a-half-year deal

Romano's post says that everything has been agreed verbally, but that means there's still the actual paperwork to complete, plus the medical.

"🔴⚫️🇺🇸 Miguel Almiron leaves Newcastle to join Atlanta United, confirmed and here we go!

"Verbal agreement sealed between all parties, also player side on four year and half contract.

"Fee around $12m for Almiron set to travel for medical tests."

There are no indications that anything will go drastically wrong at this point, but we have to tip our hat to Almiron's agent for bagging the 30-year-old a four-and-a-half-year contract. Well done, that man.
