Newcastle United have moved to appoint Marcel Bout as head of global scouting.

It's yet another top-class appointment by the club as they move to position themselves at the pinnacle of the game.

Marcel Bout has worked with some of the game's biggest clubs including Manchester United and Bayern Munich as well as the Dutch national team.

Bout will join Newcastle as head of global scouting for young talent

He will join Newcastle as the head of global scouting searching for 16-23 year olds for the club to develop into future stars.

Amongst the clubs he has worked with in Holland are Feyenoord and FC Volendam where Newcastle have Yankuba Minteh and Garang Kuol on loan respectively.

Bout spent eight years at Manchester United, coming in with Louis van Gaal in 2014 as assistant coach in charge of opposition scouting then later going on to become their chief global scout two years later before leaving the club in 2022.

The appointment will likely ease some of the pressure on Dan Ashworth who has been heavily involved in recruiting youngsters since he arrived at the club.

Bout's time at Manchester United coincided with their most unsettled period

Even though Bout spent eight years at Manchester United during arguably their worst spell in the Premier League, his CV would suggest he's a man who knows the game and should end up being a solid appointment by the owners.

Hopefully, he will be able to convince young players that Newcastle is the club to join after being beaten to two hot prospects last summer by Chelsea (Andrey Santos and Dujuan Richards), even though their track record of developing young players isn't exactly stellar.

The future just got that little bit brighter again.
