The indifferent start to Newcastle United's season continues as the strange cycle of poor performances bringing points and good performances yielding nothing continues.

On a normal day, a performance like Newcastle United put in today against Brighton, at least for the first 60 minutes, would have seen the Magpies coming away with three points and a few goals to add to their tally, but that's just not the way this season is shaping up.

As tough as it has been to watch the games this season, we aren't about to lose our heads just yet, there are, after all, 30 more games to come this season and a lot can change, but there is a definite air of concern around Newcastle at the moment and it is justified.

Speaking after today's game, Dan Burn told NUFCTV that he was frustrated after dominating the game for an hour and then watching the team implode in the last 30 minutes.

Dan Burn was frustrated with the way things went for Newcastle

In truth, even if Newcastle didn't lose their way in the latter third of the game, they still never actually looked like scoring, so it's no surprise that Burn labelled the result as 'disappointing'.

"I think for large parts we were the better team, especially for 60 minutes, but we lost our way a little bit in the last half an hour chasing the game a little bit. To play the way that we did in the first half and to come in 1-0 down, yeah it was frustrating.

"I think it's a disappointing goal from our point of view. I think with a team like Brighton if they cut you open and they score you hold your hands up, but to concede a goal like that, yeah it's disappointing."

Things aren't getting any easier for Newcastle

The fixtures don't get any easier for Newcastle either with a Chelsea double bill coming up at Stamford Bridge on Sunday followed by a Carabao Cup game at St James' Park the following Wednesday.

Arsenal visit St James' Park for the lunch-time kick off next Saturday, so those are three big tests in a row before the Magpies face Nottingham Forest for the second time this season.

If we can somehow get it through to the players that they should be trying to kick the ball into that big net before next week then we should be fine as our approach play is fine, it's jus the lack of end product that is the major concern.
