Newcastle United recently announced the Sela Weekender. A two-day festival of football at St James' Park which will see the Magpies try to retain the Sela Cup in a game against Ligue 1 side, Brest.

The Sela Cup game will take place on Saturday 10th August at St James' Park, following the friendly game with Girona on Friday night and the Newcastle United Women's game at 1pm on the Saturday afternoon.

When the event was announced the Women's opposition was still to be revealed, and while that's still the case, we have it on good authority that Becky Langley's Lasses will face off against AC Milan.

This would make sense given how the two clubs seem to have developed a decent relationship over the past 12 months or so.

Newcastle have a good relationship with AC Milan

Newcastle United bought Sandro Tonali from AC Milan last summer, and while his appearances for the Magpies have been limited due to him being a naughty boy and being hit with a 10-month ban shortly after his arrival, Newcastle never took umbrage with Milan.

Now this year to there was reportedly a meeting between the two clubs to discuss potential transfers with the Magpies extremely keen on their German defender Malick Thiaw. A move for Kieran Trippier was also discussed, and we imagine Newcastle made an enquiry around Fikayo Tomori as well.

With what we've been hearing about the Sela Weekender, there could well have been discussions around that too.

Milan Women will be a strong test for Newcastle Women

Milan Women play in the Serie A Femminile in which they finished 5th last season (out of 10 teams), but with Newcastle heading into the Championship next season, Milan should prove to be a good test of where they are ahead of the new campaign.

We are still waiting for confirmation from the club that Milan will be the opponents, but if it comes to pass it should be a great game to get things going on Saturday before the men take on Brest.

Tickets are on sale for the Sela Weekender via the club's official site here.
