We've known since the back end of last year that January wasn't going to be a busy transfer window for Newcastle United in terms of incoming deals and was to be used to move some players out of the club instead.
Newcastle have managed to shift a couple of youngsters out on loan, as well as Isaac Hayden, while Miguel Almiron and Jamie Miley look set to complete permanent departures this week.
Meanwhile, the needle hasn't shifted in terms of the Magpies looking to bring in new faces this month with the expectation that the club will hold on to do their business in the summer when it's more clear which competitions they'll be competing in.
However, The Chronicle's Aaron Stokes has now posited a situation that would see Newcastle dip into the January market.
Speaking on the Everything Is Black And White podcast, Stokes said that the only way he can see Newcastle bringing anyone new in before the deadline is if they let two more players go.
“The word coming out of Newcastle has been pretty consistent for the last month to six weeks. They don't think they're going to do anything in terms of incomings and that's regardless of Miguel Almiron going or not, which obviously isn't what fans to hear.
"We obviously talked last week on this very episode, didn't we, and said it's unthinkable for them to not replace Miggy, but they don't want to be left in that situation that they were last summer where they had to sell players at the last minute.
"We know that if they had went and signed Marc Guehi in the summer, they would have had to sell one or two to make that deal work. I think as we stand here with what, a week to go until the deadline, I think unless Miguel Almiron, Lloyd Kelly and potentially Odysseus Vlachodimos go, I would be surprised if Newcastle did anything.
"I think it would take them three really to actually say, 'right, we need to bring someone in.'"
A move to Juventus is still on the table for Lloyd Kelly but it does feel unlikely. Whereas Odysseas Vlachodimos has already rejected a move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Shabab, despite it being glaringly obvious he's not wanted at Newcastle.
It seems highly unlikely that even one of those moves will come off, never mind both of them, so we expect there will be no new faces around Newcastle United this month.
The summer window is going to be interesting because fans are going to expect a lot of action from the club, while PSR is still going to be a thing to contend with. It's going to be a question of how much we can realistically do and how many players we will need to clear off the books in order to do it as we've done a very poor job of that so far.
