It's not unusual for Newcastle United to be linked with high-profile players but quite often those links fade into the background as reality hits home.

However, the latest links between Newcastle and world-class midfielder Leroy Sane persist despite the fact that Sane's current wages at Bayern Munich are more than twice what current highest earner Bruno Guimaraes is bringing home.

Sane's contract with Bayern Munich is due to expire in the summer and Newcastle reportedly fancy their chances, however, Bayern are also offering terms to Sane who has so far turned them down as he wants even more money.

When that news broke it seemed to be game over for Newcastle, but the rumour continues to live on.

Newcastle are 'not letting up' when it comes to Leroy Sane

Christian Falk believes Newcastle are still pursuing Leroy Sane

Bild journalist Christian Falk broke the news initially and he continues to feed the rumour telling Bayern Insider that Newcastle are 'not letting up'.

“Newcastle United are not letting up on Leroy Sane, is that true or not true? That’s true. We were the first to mention it here, Newcastle’s interest in Leroy Sane, it will be difficult to finance because Bayern would have to put a really bad offer on the table. He earns €20m-a-season, estimated of course.”

We're still not sure how Falk seems to think Newcastle are going to fund the move, but the idea of having Leroy Sane bombing down one side of the pitch and Anthony Gordon on the other gets us pretty excited.

Newcastle are unlikely to be able to spend that big despite APT rules potentially being scrapped

Even in the wake of Manchester City's Associated Party Transaction case victory and the possible ramifications of that for Newcastle, we doubt that it would generate enough headroom to bring in a £300k-a-week plus player.

It is of course where everyone expected Newcastle to be, hence the introduction of rules regarding APTs, but the general feeling is that while it looks like a significant victory, it's unlikely to move the needle much for Newcastle.

If Newcastle are serious about landing Sane they could get the German international to sign a pre-contract agreement in January with a view to a switch in the summer.
