After a month-long back-and-forth, Newcastle United eventually walked away from trying to sign Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi this summer.

Although they did so too late to leave any time to find a different target, it may not have made a difference as reports, and even things that have been said by sporting director Paul Mitchell would suggest that Guehi was Newcastle's only target for that position.

Therefore it kind of stands to reason that Newcastle would once again look at a move for Marc Guehi either in January or next summer.

However, if that's the case, then the Magpies could face increased competition for the England star with Manchester City recently showing interest and now Chelsea are contemplating bringing him back to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea now want Marc Guehi back in January

London World have reported that Chelsea are now considering a move for Marc Guehi with the Crystal Palace star's stock on the rise.

It would make sense that Chelsea would be looking at making a move for Guehi, what with him being a football player who is currently drawing breath and everything.

The report suggests that Chelsea will make their move in January which could force Newcastle's hand if they still maintain that Guehi is the right man for the job.

Marc Guehi's time at Crystal Palace looks to be limited

Now that the summer window is out of the way, though, we'd expect that Paul Mitchell will be working to put his stamp on things and therefore we could see new targets emerge before the January window opens.

We'd like to think that lessons have been learned after this summer's myriad of failures and that the club will not be putting all their eggs in one basket again.

One thing's for sure, it doesn't look like Marc Guehi will be a Crystal Palace player come the start of next season.
