Newcastle United have officially missed out on Tosin Adarabioyo after it was confirmed that the defender has signed a four-year deal at Chelsea this morning.

A move to Tyneside looked nailed on for Tosin but Chelsea have snatched him out of the Magpies clutches to keep the 26-year-old in London.

It's not a massive blow for the club as they are close to confirming a deal for Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly but with lingering FFP issues a deal for Tosin would've helped ease budget concerns.

The Magpies will most likely be back in the market for a defender due to injuries to key players and the release of Paul Dummett.

Chelsea offered Tosin more money than Newcastle

The main reason Tosin preferred to move to London was convenience, going from Fulham to Chelsea makes the most sense logistically.

However, small details in the deal showed that Chelsea offered fractionally less than the Magpies.

The Blues reportedly struck a deal with Tosin after offering him £ 135,000 a week compared to Newcastle's £130,000. It's a small difference but it convinced him to stay in London.

Key Chelsea figures spoke to Tosin ahead of the four-year deal.

It was revealed by Tosin that Chelsea stars Raheem Sterling and Cole Palmer spoke to him before making the move.

Tosin said: "I spent two or three years with Raz and Willy [Caballero], and most of my youth journey with Cole.

"Before confirming the move, I gave Raz and Cole a call and they had nothing but positive things to say about the club and the project, and how excited they were that I was coming to the club."
