Newcastle United defied expectations last night by bringing to an end Aston Villa's unbeaten home record that stood for almost a year.

Not only that, but it was the first time Newcastle had scored a goal at Villa Park in the Premier League since 2013 as well as their only win there since that same game. A 1-1 draw in the Championship was the last time a Newcastle player bagged at Villa Park - and even that was a Tommy Elphick own goal.

It's little wonder then, that the travelling Toon Army - who had again been shafted by a ridiculous kick-off time at the behest of the TV Overlords - were in such fine voice at full-time.

Amanda Staveley may have diluted her shares but she's not diluted her passion

Joining in the celebrations was now 6% co-owner Amanda Staveley who took to Instagram to dish out her praise, using the official site's amazing picture of Jacob Murphy celebrating his goal.

Staveley captioned the image to thank the players and the fans for an amazing night.

"Outstanding performance tonight! I could not be prouder of our team. Thank you to all of our amazing fans to continue to travel regardless of distance. What an amazing night"

Time to kick on and climb that table

This result should be a huge lift for the team and indeed the fans who have been suffering a bit lately with all the negativity surrounding the club lately.

Newcastle now have revenge in their minds as Luton and Nottingham Forest are up next. We owe both of them a hiding, especially Forest after that Chris Wood hat trick.

We did say that the second half of the season was where we expected to come to life, but we have to admit, it happened earlier than we thought and that is in no way a bad thing.
