Goals from Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak gave Newcastle United a 2-1 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after Dominic Solanke gave the hosts an early lead.
The stop-start game was littered with niggly little fouls and a few big clashes. It was a high-energy game from start to finish but the Magpies dug in and held on until the final whistle.
However, Eddie Howe did have to remove a couple of players through injury putting a big doubt on their availability for Tuesday night's Carabao Cup clash with Arsenal.
Anthony Gordon took a big blow to his nose in an incident which many believed should have seen Newcastle awarded a penalty. He did manage to continue for a few minutes but was ultimately replaced by Harvey Barnes.
Late in the game, Newcastle picked up their second casualty as Sven Botman, making his first start in nine months, pulled up with what looked like a calf strain or possible just a case of cramp.
After the game, Eddie Howe touched on the pair's injuries and suggested that both will be fine for Tuesday, as reported by The Express.
"We managed the game very well and the injuries we had were genuine. A lot of players coming off. It was a physical game for us. For Sven it was nothing more than cramp which is to be expected with the lack time he's had.
"It was a great effort from him to last that long. We were unsure how long he'd last but thankfully he got through the game. With Anthony I think it was just a cut but it was a nasty cut. He did well to get back on the pitch. But nothing more than that."
Howe then went on to suggest that changes could be made to the lineup for Tuesday night's game as he noticed the team starting to run out of energy towards the end of the Spurs game.
"We need to assess how the players feel. We need energetic players for Arsenal."
It's a quick turnaround for the lads after such an epic battle today, but we've got confidence that they'll be raring to go come Tuesday. However Fabian Schar and Bruno Guimaraes will be forced to sit this one out due to suspension, so there will be a change in midfield, while we expect Sven Botman and Dan Burn pair up again at centre-back.
