Newcastle United are all about building for the future which is why they are keen to give players long deals to keep them around.
Bruno Guimaraes recently signed up until 2028 after becoming the linchpin of Newcastle's midfield. Alexander Isak, Sandro Tonali and Tino Livramento are also contracted until 2028 and they are set to be joined by a player nobody would have expected to still be at the club by then.
Jacob Murphy looks to be the next player to join the "28 Club" - a thing that I just made up.
That is according to a post on X by TeamTalk who say they have the exclusive that Murphy is now set to be offered a new deal.
Murphy was one of those players fans had on the list for the chop when the takeover went through along with Miguel Almiron and Joelinton, but like those two, he has really upped his game under Eddie Howe and if anyone deserves to be rewarded right now it's Murph.
Currently out recovering from shoulder surgery after dislocating it in the game against Borussia Dortmund at St James' Park and then again against Arsenal, Murphy had, prior to that, been involved in almost every game under Eddie Howe, quite often as an impact sub.
Whenever Howe put Murphy into the starting lineup, though, he never let the side down. Dubbed 'enthusiastic' by Eddie Howe, Murphy's energy seems never-ending. Staff within the club will almost always drop his name when asked about the best players in training (as reported by The Athletic) and Howe has found a way to get those training ground performances onto the pitch.
Beyond his performances on the pitch, Murphy has become a fan-favourite of late. Ever since the new media team started to give fans plenty of content to pore over we have been noticing just how funny Murphy is. Always with a cheeky mug to the camera or a funny gesture, he can always be counted on for a chuckle.
There will be some fans who think he's maybe not at the right level for us going forward, and that's understandable, but just because he may sign on until 2028 doesn't mean he'll still be here keeping Jude Bellingham out of the side in three years time. It's a reward for a job well done and we're here for it. Go Murphy!
