Mick Martin and Nobby Solano inducted into the Newcastle United Hall of Fame

The Newcastle United Foundation held their annual awards last night and plenty of Newcastle stars past and present were in attendance.

As well as the awards recognising the outstanding achievements of the community, two more Newcastle legends were inducted into the NUFC Hall of Fame alongside the likes of Alan Shearer and Les Ferdinand.

Nolberto "Nobby" Solano and Mick "Zico" Martin were a decade apart at Newcastle but both are deserving of their place in the Hall of Fame.

We do love a flair player at Newcastle

I'm getting on a bit, but I don't really remember Mick Martin as a player, but I definitely remember him as the co-commentator on Metro Radio back in the day ... oh radio was like the internet without pictures, it's where we got music and news from ... ask your parents. Martin was one of the early flair players, known for his dead-ball ability and quick feet.

I do, however, remember Nobby Solano, the trumpet-toting Peruvian who had two excellent spells on Tyneside scoring almost 40 goals in over 220 appearances. Solano, like Mick Martin, had a gift from a dead-ball situation, he could put bend and spin on the ball that almost defied physics.

Nobby had a gift that few players at Newcastle had. He could command the ball to do whatever he wanted, he was magical. His legacy has endured and even younger fans who weren't around in his day know who he is.

Will any of our current squad make it to the Hall of Fame?

The NUFC Hall of Fame is filling up nicely after only being started a couple of years ago and it boasts inductees dating from as far back as Colin Veitch who played before World War One broke out in 1914, all the way up to the likes of Steve Harper and Shola Ameobi.

We can't wait to see who else is in line for a spot with so many great players who have worn the famous black and white.

In fact, we wonder if any current players will one day find themselves inducted. Lewis Miley has got himself off to a good start. Kieran Trippier maybe? A controversial one here, but Jamaal Lascelles? Who from our current crop is heading for the Hall of Fame in your opinion? Let us know in the comments below.
