Reports are circulating that the outcome of Manchester City's recent wrangling with the Premier League is about to be revealed.
It's suggested that the details of the outcome of the case surrounding Associated Party Transactions (APT) will be made public this week after the case was heard earlier this summer.
The original case was heard over a two-week arbitration case in June and we've been waiting ever since to discover which way the verdict swung.
If Manchester City win, which they believe they will, then the Premier League may be forced to roll back the rules governing how much businesses connected to the club's owners can pay out for sponsorship deals.
In the wake of Newcastle's takeover in 2021 the Premier League hastily tightened up the rules around APT throttling the ability of clubs with wealthy owners to pump money into the club, something that Manchester City has deemed unfair and felt the need to challenge.
Rather than get involved, Newcastle United have sat back to await the outcome despite being named by Manchester City in their case as the catalyst for the change.
A win for City would be a win for Newcastle and the PIF as sponsorship deals with businesses which are part of the PIF's vast portfolio would soon be blown wide open and that's when we'd likely see the training kit, training ground and stadium sponsors appear.
It definitely feels as though the club have been waiting to see the outcome of this case before bringing in those three potentially huge sponsors.
Three new large sponsorship deals with PIF-backed businesses could unlock a lot of headroom in terms of PSR and massively reduce the pressure on Paul Mitchell and Co when it comes to finding the right players for the club within a tight budget.
Manchester City are confident that things went well for them in the hearing, but we should find out very soon if their gut feeling is warranted.
