Newcastle United U19s fell to a late 0-1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain U19s at Gateshead International Stadium in the UEFA Youth League this afternoon, with a heartbreaking winning goal from substitute Ilies Ardjani coming in the 91st minute.

The young Magpies headed into the contest as heavy underdogs against their French counterparts, in a game that was broadcast live on TNT Sports 1 in the UK and Ireland.

Dawson's side had lost their opening game of the Youth League 4-0 in Milan a couple of weeks ago, while PSG had been beaten 1-0 at home by Borussia Dortmund.

Here's how NUFC lined up:

The visitors probably deserved their victory in the end, with Newcastle not threatening Louis Mouquet in the PSG goal enough over the course of the 90 minutes.

A solid rearguard action and six saves from Aidan Harris—who ended up on the bench in the San Siro in the senior side's opening Champions League game due to Martin Dúbravka's illness—almost ensured a first clean sheet and point in the competition, however.

It wasn't to be, sadly, with PSG snatching the win right at the death. This was a much, much-improved performance over the one in Milan, though, and the Newcastle youngsters did themselves proud. Onwards and upwards, lads!

Next up for Dawson's side is another game in Gateshead against Dortmund U19s on Wednesday 25th October at 3 p.m. BST.
