Kieran Trippier has had some big nights in his career and played for some top clubs but Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker has shared how Trippier feels about playing for Newcastle United.

It's no coincidence that Newcastle's huge upturn in fortunes on the pitch coincided with the arrival of £12million signing Kieran Trippier after the England defender became Eddie Howe's first signing in January 2022.

Tripps was soon joined by Bruno Guimaraes, Dan Burn, Matt Targett and Chris Wood and the five of them would help inspire Newcastle to climb out of the relegation zone to an 11th-place finish defying all odds.

The following season Trippier led Newcastle to a fourth place finish and a Carabao Cup final. Unfortunately, fate conspired against the Magpies last season and the heroics of Howe's first full season in charge couldn't be replicated.

That will have given Trippier a fairly good perspective of what it's like to play for Newcastle in the best of times and the not-so-great times.

Speaking on his podcast, You'll Never Beat Kyle Walker, the England right-back shared what his good mate Trippier told him it's like playing for Newcastle when it's all going well.

“They are two massive clubs up there. Me and Tripps go back a long way. He just says the city when you are doing well, it’s incredible.

“He compared it to Napoli. Once you are doing well in that city, you probably eat for free!”

Trippier's Newcastle future is up in the air right now with plenty of rumours suggesting the 33-year-old may be on his way out with Saudi Arabia mooted as a possible destination.

Although Trippier has hinted that he'll be around next season, you just never know in this game..

First, though, Tripps is hoping to be part of Gareth Southgate's starting XI for England as they head to Germany for Euro 2024.
