It seems that journalists and pundits being completely unable to comprehend the idea that Newcastle United might just be a good place for top players isn't purely an English thing.
Sky Sports seems to be absolutely desperate for Alexander Isak to move to one of their 'Big Six' buddies with links to Arsenal being pulled out of thin air to keep the narrative going.
Sky Sports News reporter Mark McAdam chose to mention Arsenal when Newcastle scored against Southampton on Saturday - he never mentioned either of the clubs playing but went straight to the Arsenal and Isak links. He rightly got pelters for it, with The Telegraph's Luke Edwards calling him out on his behaviour instantly.
We saw it for months with Bruno Guimaraes with reporters linking him with moves to Barcelona or Real Madrid or Manchester City with very little to base it on other than, in their eyes, he was too good for Newcastle.
Sandro Tonali is the latest to be the subject of this nonsense. The Italian was linked with a return home before he even landed on Tyneside following his £55 million move from AC Milan, and now it seems that the Italian media may have come to terms with the fact that he may not return home just yet, but they are still pushing the narrative that he will leave Newcastle.
Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has now said to SpazioMilan that Real Madrid could be the destination for Tonali who "will" move in the summer.
“I don’t know if he could return to Italy in June, but I think Tonali will leave Newcastle: I think there could also be an important international market for him.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if Real Madrid could take him, but City could do it too. Sandro is a player who, beyond a possible return to Italy – because he could be happy to return – could have an international outlet on the market.”
We have to take this with a pinch of salt as something may have been lost in translation, but honestly, what is it with the entitlement here? 'Real Madrid could take him' - not buy him? Nah, help yourself.
But after Tonali's agent shut down reports of him being unhappy, it seems that Di Marzio has opted to ignore that and still push the horseradish narrative that Tonali is unhappy.
Why can't we just have normal transfer stories for our players? "A club is interested in our player, a deal may be possible if X,Y and Z happens otherwise, it's unlikely". For us it's always that the player wants to go to a bigger club and said club can just take them if they want. So annoying.
