Alexander Isak's Newcastle United future is a goldmine for journalists and people trying to acquire online clout.

The constant links to Arsenal are a source of huge frustration for Newcastle fans, and now it seems even the Newcastle-based media are getting fed up with it after The Telegraph's Luke Edwards called out Sky Sports' Mark McAdam for it on Saturday.

Unfortunately, the speculation isn't likely to be going anywhere for a while yet, and a lot of it will be driven by how well Newcastle ultimately do this season.

If the Magpies once again fail to secure a spot in Europe this season, then all the noise around Isak will hit new levels.

Alexander Isak has no intentions of leaving Newcastle United as things stand

Alexander Isak is not even thinking about leaving Newcastle United

As things stand, though, Newcastle are in a good place in the League to land European football, have one foot in the Carabao Cup final and are still in the FA Cup, so there's nothing to panic about just yet.

When it comes to Isak's contract, there has been a lot of talk around this subject too, with contract talks being shelved earlier in the season. it was the right call by the club, given how long his current deal still has to run, but it was also perfect for those pushing the Arsenal agenda to pounce on and make up their own stories about it.

Now, The Telegraph are reporting that the club will reopen talks with Isak at the end of the season. Newcastle already gave big new contracts to Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton and Anthony Gordon in recent times, which will have had a huge effect on PSR, so it only makes sense that the club would wait until the next reporting cycle to offer up another big deal.

Champions League qualification would make the whole process a lot simpler

European qualification will play a big part in what happens next with Isak, there's no denying that. A player of his ilk will demand that he plays at the highest level and if Newcastle can't offer that, then of course he'll look elsewhere.

For now, though, Isak has told his teammates that he's not even thinking about leaving Newcastle which is great news for fans, the club and his teammates.

Now we just need to ensure we are playing in Europe next season, preferably the Champions League so there's no hint of a doubt, and we can crack on with Alexander Isak leading the line.
