Isaac Hayden to begin legal proceedings against Standard Liege after 'disaster' loan spell

Isaac Hayden has returned to Newcastle United while the club tries to find a new loan move for him.

The former Arsenal midfielder's future at Newcastle is certain ... certainly somewhere else.

Hayden is still under contract at Newcastle but was due to spent the season on loan at Standard Liege in Belgium. However, that deal has now been cut short and Newcastle are currently looking for a new club for Hayden.

Hayden has given his side of the story

It was initially reported that Liege wanted the loan deal to end due to the inconsistency of the 28-year-old, but an interview with Isaac Hayden has revealed his side of the story.

It seems that Hayden wanted out as much as Liege wanted him out, perhaps even more so given that Hayden is now talking about starting legal proceedings against the Belgian club according to an interview with Sacha Tavolieri (via NUFCblog).

“The main reason why I left Standard Liege is that the club does not pay salaries on time… and does not pay them. I will now initiate legal proceedings against the club to obtain the wages that Standard Liege owes me.

“For example, I received my November salary… on December 28th. They also didn’t pay the players’ bonuses and now the December salaries haven’t been paid and we’re almost at the end of January…It’s a real disaster!”

Could Eddie Howe make use of the returning midfielder?

A few fans have now asked the question, with Joelinton potentially out for the rest of the season and the club pleading poverty, does Eddie Howe give Hayden another shot for the remainder of the season?

We could certainly do with an extra midfielder, especially with Bruno Guimaraes so close to a two-game suspension, but is Hayden even good enough to fill that void even for a few games?

It does seem increasingly likely that he will be on the way to the Championship on loan until we can find a new permanent home for him, however.
