Despite his consistently solid performances Dan Burn is still not favoured by many Newcastle United fans at left-back.

Signing for Newcastle for £13million from Brighton as a left-sided centre-back in Eddie Howe's first transfer window, Dan Burn has installed himself as one of the first names on Howe's team sheet.

His solid defensive displays in those first months at his boyhood club were a huge contributing factor to Newcastle avoiding the drop. The Blyth-born colossus has gone from strength to strength since signing. Deployed as a left-back from early last season following an injury to Matt Targett, Burn has now made that spot his own.

Yet, despite his form, there are still those who don't think he's quite up to the task. We must stress here that we're not saying that even his biggest detractors don't love the guy, I mean, how can you not? He's mint! But, there are definitely dissenting voices who believe we need to replace him at left-back owing to a lack of pace and the fact that he's not as effective going forward as Kieran Trippier on the opposite flank.

The fact is, though, he's not meant to get forward like Trippier does. If both he and Tripps get forward to support the attack that leaves just the two centre-backs exposed if there's a counter.

Now though, WhoScored has provided a list of the top three highest rated left-backs in the Premier League and guess who is on that list? It would be mental if it wasn't Dan Burn after all this wouldn't it?

The man Eddie Howe hailed as 'incredible', Dan Burn sits in second place behind Liverpool's Andy Robertson and ahead of Tottenham's Destiny Udogie.

So yes, he does lack pace and going forward he's not as effective as Trippier, but overall he's doing a ruddy good job.

Crack on, BDB!
