If Saturday's 0-0 draw with Everton proved anything it's that Newcastle United desperately need to add more firepower to their front line.

Newcastle were without their two main strikers for the last three games and without an adequate backup in the squad, Eddie Howe has been forced to play Anthony Gordon as centre-forward in two of the last three matches.

New addition Will Osula who was signed in the summer played against AFC Wimbledon in midweek and despite garnering a fair bit of praise, is still not deemed worthy of gracing a Premier League pitch for whatever reason.

One player Newcastle have reportedly already begun talks with to come into the fold is Lille's Canadian striker Jonathan David.

We are desperate for Jonathan David to come to Newcastle

We've made no secret of our desire to see Jonathan David in the black and white next season, and now that the 24-year-old has signalled his intent to leave Lille when his contract expires in the summer, other clubs are able to discuss a pre-contract agreement to be signed in January.

This would mean that Newcastle could agree the move with David in January ready for him to join the club when his Lille contract expires six months later.

However, Sport in Spain are now reporting that Barcelona are keen on Jonathan David, and while their report says they need to be wary of Newcastle and Tottenham, we feel it's the Premier League sides who need to be wary of Barca.

Barcelona are still a huge draw for players

Even though Barca are fraught with issues, they are still a huge draw for players just on their name alone. It's like Manchester United - they're a total mess but their legacy allows them to attract players.

Now that Barcelona have entered the race, Newcastle really need to make sure that their sales pitch is absolutely spot on to attract Jonathan David.

Surely forming a partnership with Alexander Isak is a much bigger draw than Dominic Solanke, so we should have Tottenham beat, right? And how hard can it be to convince someone that moving to a club who can actually afford your wages is a better move than moving to one who can't?
