Newcastle United fans don't normally take much stock in whatever Gabby Agbonlahor has to say when the former Aston Villa man is on talkSPORT.

Agbonlahor has often been criticised by Newcastle fans for his odd takes when it comes to matters surrounding our beloved club, but even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Gabby has been speaking about the latest England squad which will be Gareth Southgate's last chance to look over his options before he has to trim the squad down to 26 players for Euro 2024 in Germany.

Two Newcastle players in Kieran Trippier and Anthony Gordon made the cut this time while two hopefuls in the form of Nick Pope and Callum Wilson missed out.

Agbonlahor thinks Trippier doesn't look interested lately

However, Mr Agbonhalor said on talkSPORT that Kieran Trippier could probably count himself fortunate to be among the squad as he's not performed for Newcastle since his return from injury going on to lay quite a damning criticism at his feet.

“He has been poor when he has come back.

“He has not looked interested. I have seen games he has been playing in, Trippier, and he is like, he has not got up the line with the Newcastle defence. He doesn’t seem bothered after they concede, not himself.”

Trippier was awful against Manchester United and was dropped for Brentford

There's not likely to be many fans who can really disagree with Agbonhalor on this one. It seemed to take forever for Trippier to come back from what was originally touted as a minor injury, and then when he did return he was at fault for Manchester United's opener in the 3-2 defeat at Old Trafford.

It's almost as if he's only made a return to action to get into the England squad. Something has not been right with Trippier for months now, whether he's not happy at the club, or it's issues elsewhere we can only speculate.

We wouldn't be shocked if Trippier is not a Newcastle player come the start of next season.
