Last night it emerged that Fulham and Crystal Palace had agreed terms for centre-back Joachim Andersen which had Newcastle United fans concerned that it was the final nail in the coffin for the Mark Guehi deal.

It seems unthinkable that with just over a week to go before the transfer window closes that Crystal Palace would allow both of their starting centre-backs to depart, and with Fulham looking likely to take Joachim Andersen, it didn't look good for Newcastle.

However, it is worth remembering that Palace are closing in on a deal for Maxence Lacroix from Wolfsburg and were already resigned to losing one of either Andersen or Guehi.

They've already got one replacement inbound so would only need to find another, if that's what they chose to do at all.

Keith Downie was quick to alleviate concerns

Keith Downie was quick to put fans' minds at ease saying that he doesn't believe the Andersen deal will affect negotiations between Newcastle and Palace for Guehi.

The last thing Newcastle needed was another complication with this saga dragging on for what feels like an eternity already.

That light at the end of the tunnel is starting to dim and flicker, though, with the Magpies putting a deadline on the deal and drawing up a list of alternative targets.

Paul Mitchell has rolled his last dice it seems

It seems like it's Paul Mitchell's last desperate attempts to spark Steve Parish into action, but the way things have gone so far, it doesn't seem like Parish will fall for it.

We're starting to lose faith that the deal will be done and at this point, it's just pure stubbornness that we want it to go through.

We'll be massively over-paying if we do get Guehi and that's also something we'd need to be wary of - a lot of pressure can come with being a record signing, are we sure Guehi could handle it?
