This ongoing saga with Newcastle United and Crystal Palace over the transfer of England centre-back Marc Guehi is showing no signs of letting up.

There are many fans who think Newcastle should just walk away from the deal after Steve 'Motormouth' Parish went on a whirlwind press tour about how Newcastle need to cough up another £5 million to land their priority target.

We understand what those fans are saying, but it feels like a long way to have come to let that gobshite win now. At this point, the longer he drags it out, the more he's damaging his own cause. Newcastle seem determined to make this work and might just play it out until the final day of the window so that Palace have no time to get in a replacement.

It might be a spiteful way to do business, but Parish isn't exactly conducting his affairs with honour right now.

Fabrizio Romano says Newcastle are confident that they will sign Guehi

Despite the drawn-out process, Fabrizio Romano has told Give Me Sport that Newcastle are still interested and confident.

"Negotiations are ongoing on this one. Newcastle are, I would say, quite confident they have returned with a new bid, that they are in direct contact with Crystal Palace.

"Palace always wanted something like £65 million for Marc. So that's why the negotiation has always been difficult, but the interest is still there."

It's time to stop messing about and get it done

We'd honestly hope for a resolution sooner rather than later as much as Parish has ticked us off over the last 24 hours we don't think dragging it on benefits either club at this point.

Let's just get the deal done and move on. How about we throw in Miguel Almiron too? Quality replacement for Michael Olise. Deal? Oh don't worry, Steve, we'll still give you the extra £5 million. In fact, better make it £6 million as a thank you for taking Miggy.

I got told off for being childish yesterday when writing about this - I have learned nothing!
