Newcastle United are reportedly in negotiations with AC Milan over a move for their German centre-back Malilck Thiaw.

According to journalist Joel Bland, talks between AC Milan and Newcastle are progressing and it's believed that a verbal agreement has been made on a contract in principle for 22-year-old defender Malick Thiaw.

If true, this would be a huge coup for Newcastle with Thiaw being one of the most promising young defenders in the game, and the perfect long-term partner for Sven Botman in Newcastle's backline.

It has also been reported that AC Milan are keen to sign Strahinja Pavlovic from RB Salzburg and that his arrival could lead to Thiaw's departure.

AC Milan have agreed personal terms with Serbian CB Strahinja Pavlović on long term deal.

Negotiations underway with RB Salzburg on package and final fee.

Malick Thiaw is German. Newcastle will be in Germany next week. Bring him home.

With Joel Bland's story and Fabrizio Romano's update, things are looking very positive for Newcastle in their pursuit of a new centre-back.

We may still be a couple of weeks away from any actual movement, but with the Magpies heading to Germany next week, it would be a great time for the German to make his move and link up with his new club on his home turf.

Let's be honest, though, we're probably being a bit sentimental and a touch ambitious there.
