Newcastle United fell down another place in the Premier League following their 4-1 hammering at the hands of Aston Villa on Saturday.

The Magpies are still in a Champions League position but thanks to Nottingham Forest beating Tottenham and now Manchester City's last-minute winner against Aston Villa, we've gone from third to fifth without kicking a ball.

Things were looking good for Newcastle last night, as Man City and Villa looked destined to share the spoils, but Matheus Nunes had other ideas, bagging the winning goal four minutes into second-half stoppage time.

A draw would have been the ideal outcome for Newcastle as it would have kept both teams at bay in the Champions League race, but now Manchester City have leapt into third above Nottingham Forest and Newcastle.

Newcastle now have a game in hand over Man City

That game sees both sides move on to 34 played this season, however, while the rest of the league are on 33, so as long as Newcastle can get back to winning ways they still have the advantage.

With the relegation places and league title all but sewn up, the Champions League battle is where it's at now, and it couldn't be tighter.

No side has a particularly easy run-in; there are still several times that clubs involved in the race have to play each other. If we were neutral, this would be brilliant.

Newcastle must relegate Ipswich in style on Saturday to send a message

Newcastle will relegate Ipswich by taking a point from them on Saturday, but after Arsenal battered them 4-0 at the weekend, and the fact that we equalled that scoreline at Portman Road, I expect we help ourselves to a hatful on Saturday.

A big win will send the right message after Saturday's stumble and would see us stay right in the race for third place, which is ideally where we'd like to be; every position counts with an extra few quid on the line.

Ipswich are the one game we have left that, on paper, a win is practically a given. Brighton, Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton are all capable of taking points off us, so we have to start this run-in strongly.
