Newcastle United are expected to be one of several top clubs in the mix for Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen this summer as his £50 million release clause becomes active.

Bournemouth are fully aware they will lose the Spanish international this summer, but they can't be too downhearted as they look set to more than triple their investment after signing the youngster for £15 million last summer.

Huijsen was on Newcastle's radar last summer as they weighed up a move for the Juventus teenager who had been impressing out on loan at Roma, but for whatever reason, the Magpies decided to focus all their efforts on Marc Guehi instead. And we all know how that turned out.

Now it's going to cost Newcastle an extra £45 million if they want to sign the 19-year-old this summer.

Chelsea have emerged as frontrunners for Dean Huijsen

However, The Independent claims that Chelsea are the current favourites to land Huijsen as his dream move to Real Madrid looks unlikely.

It seems like Chelsea are willing to put Hujsen on one of their bonkers contracts that they became famous for when diving through PSR loopholes.

“Chelsea are willing to offer a package that could make up a seven-year contract, with Huijsen fitting their strategy of signing the most promising young players in football.”

We'll never understand how Chelsea keeps attracting players

For some reason, it doesn't matter how crazy Chelsea looks from the outside; they still manage to attract players, and it looks as though Newcastle could be about to lose out on one of the most promising defenders in Europe to the Blues.

We're sure Newcastle will still be amongst the Dean Huijsen melee this summer, but we also believe that the club will have a healthy list of alternative targets in a bid to avoid the mistakes of last summer.

We wonder how long it will be before the Marc Guehi rumour mill fires up again.
